Application Modernization

Overview

Legacy applications are key to the success of the business - but many of these applications expose organizations to unacceptable and growing risks. This is especially true for those applications written in the older languages, particularly Assembler, COBOL, PL1, or 4GLs like PowerBuilder and COOL:Gen.

Many of these systems were originally written in the 60's and 70's and are still relied upon to perform the core business functionality that drives your organization. In addition, these systems have evolved through years of constant enhancement to keep companies competitive in their market.

An even greater risk is that these “legacy” applications are typically in a complex development environment with heavy reliance on key individual’s skills and knowledge and, most importantly, these skills are in the decline due to the advancing age of the maintenance programmer work force.

In addition, the potential impact on the entire corporation is growing on a daily basis:

  • It is increasingly more expensive to maintain the systems which are written in an older more complex language.
  • There is limited agility in making enhancements to the system, affecting the deployment of new market initiatives, new revenue streams, and customer satisfaction processes.
  • Corporate control features are more difficult to implement and monitor.

There is a growing awareness throughout the Information Technology industry that effective remedial action -- "application modernization" -- is necessary now in order to mitigate these issues which are putting corporations at an unacceptable level of risk. ISM modernization services and solutions are designed to cost effectively and efficiently address your legacy application risk.
